Preparation

for the Visit at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Site

Going on a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Site, only few young people foreknow what they are going to see there.

Not once do they have more fear before the visit than during or after the guided tour of the former concentration camp’s site. The exercises suggested in this workshop help the participants to realize and share with the group their vision of Auschwitz, to get to know more about the topography of the Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau camps by working with historical photos as unique means of transmitting information about what was happening there. The short film “Ambulance” draws the attention of the participants to the fates of children in the Holocaust. The workshop is closed by a short presentation, which gives a glimpse about the categories of prisoners and the reasons of their deportation to Auschwitz.
