He was a co-founder and co-creator of our house: The International Youth Meeting Centre owes its charm and attractivity towards young people from all over the world, who come to this place in order study the history of the German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau but also to get to know the memories of the survivors, to his creativity and architectural concept.
Helmut Morlok also shaped and gifted the IYMC with his biography and the reflection of his past and his work, as a child born in the Nazi-period and who from a very young age was drilled and prepared to a take-over a leading role after the “Endsieg” (Final Victory) of the Nazis. But also for him, his wife Rosmarie and his family the encounters and friendships with Auschwitz-survivors, which resulted from this work, acted as guidance and enrichment to their lives: We owe Helmut Morlok a lot and we mourn the loss: His place in our house and our hearts stays!
