The Other Side of the World
25 Years of the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oświęcim/Auschwitz

„The other side of the world“ – these words were spoken by Baron Maurice Goldstein on December 7th 1986 at the opening of the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oświęcim/Auschwitz – a cooperation between Action Reconciliation Service for Peace in Berlin and the city of Oświęcim.

„The other side of the world“ is also the title of the exhibition for the 20th anniversary of the International Youth Meeting Centre. This exhibition is an attempt to present the hundreds of events: seminars, study trips, exhibitions, concerts, and meetings – which form the pedagogical concept of “Auschwitz as a place of learning”. This is an attempt to grasp the reflections and emotions that accompany them, and try to find out an answer for how this “other side of the world” looks today. At the centre of this is the meeting of survivors with young people. The transmission of the truth about Auschwitz forms the most important part of the dialogue, and quotations from the Centre’s Guest Book accompany these talks. Our exhibition as well as the catalogue invite you to take part in these meetings and is dedicated to the former prisoners of KL Auschwitz as a tribute and an expression of our gratitude towards them for working with the IYMC.
